I had a first look at the thing that Balazs has been working on. I don't want to spoil any potential launch events so I won't say anything about what it is or what it does, for now.

Just to say... my mind is blown.

I think he nailed it. The design... the name... the content... everything.

He has solved a legitimate problem faced by millions of PHP developers and he has packaged it beautifully.

If you're reading, Balazs, I'm really excited about what you've put together and I have no doubt that it'll be wildly popular. To be able to launch things for the web development community is one of the most satisfying things ever and I'm absolutely cheering you on, as I'm sure others are too.

And to everyone else... get launching! This is the way to go and we'll all be cheering you on. Launch baby launch!

I may have beaten you to first look DC 😎

Needless to say, I was so inspired by Balazs work; I have shared a version with him that runs native on my OS of choice.

It will be great and have no doubt it will be a win for all devs who seek simplicity, zero bloat and pure genius!

👏 👏 👏 Balazs 🙇

For too long, the PHP community has had to choose between either bloated garbage or assets that are several years out of date. It's about time somebody shook things up.

Personally speaking, I'm not involved any of the projects discussed in this thread. However, I support these kinds of projects completely. I hope I can soon have an opportunity to put out a video demo, on YouTube, when the time comes.

Thank you very much, DC, for the appreciation and your encouraging words!

The project is simply called getPHP. It's an open-source, command-line utility I built to spin up a local PHP environment directly via a terminal command, mostly as a lightweight alternative to traditional stacks like XAMPP or MAMP. It automates the backend installation for Apache, MySQL, PHP, and phpMyAdmin in one go.

If you want to check out the codebase, the site is up at getphp.org, and I put together a quick video demonstrating how the setup works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSvH4A3erJo.

Right now, it fully supports Apple Silicon Macs (M1–M5) and Debian/Ubuntu-based Linux distros. I'm currently working on bringing the same one-liner experience to Windows over the next couple of months.

Since it's a brand new open-source project, any technical feedback or testing from fellow developers would be incredibly helpful. DC, if you read this, a demo by The Web Developer Extraordinaire would honestly mean the world to me. 🙏

This humble post is my "launch event." I wish I could do a proper, grand launch, but getPHP literally has 0 subscribers on both the website and YouTube right now.

Thank you, everyone!
