Just to say, there has been a lot of AI scaremongering of late. This is the exaggeration or sensationalising of the risks of artificial intelligence to frighten the public, manipulate opinions, or promote a company or specific agenda.
Don't listen to any of it.
If you look into the main players who are raising the alarm, few, if any, of them are actually getting their hands dirty with code. I understand that the whistle-blower whose tweet went viral only worked for Anthropic for six weeks.
Ask any of these people how an extinction scenario would actually play out and the answers you get are often utterly absurd. My personal favourite is the speculation about a hypothetical 'rent-a-human.com' website.
If push came to shove, it would be a major inconvenience, but entirely feasible for the human race to flip a variety of 'kill switches' pertaining to things like data centres, power grids and the internet.
Even if I'm wrong about this, being in a state of fear won't help you.
My advice? Ignore it. It's ridiculous. I actually think it's some kind of covert marketing trick because the AI providers still can't turn a profit.
That's not to say that they're all in on it. Some whistle-blowers may not be profiting directly from the AI providers. Instead, they may make money from selling books, speaking tours and ad revenue.
As always, it's...
All. About. The. Money.

FOLLOW UP:
Turns out https://rentahuman.ai/ is a real website!
In addition, there appears to be a growing number of people jumping on board the "AI Doom & Gloom" bandwagon. Some of them appear to be far smarter than me.
Personally speaking, I remain skeptical and I don't see any prospect of AI taking out humanity. As a matter of fact, I'm willing to bet a million dollars that AI does not kill all of humanity. :P
Nevertheless, if anybody out there disagrees then we're certainly not arguing over this.
