We may go down

Hello folks,

I'd mentioned a few days ago that our webhosts appear to have been acquired by H4Y Technologies LLC (Formerly Host for Yourself LLC). I wish them well but right now I haven't got the appetite to go negotiating sponsorship deals. So, there's a reasonable chance that this website could be taken down.

If we go down, I'm not going to waste time faffing about with servers and technical support tickets. Instead, I'm going to rebuild the entire website (new design, new module market and everything) live and in realtime on the private members' area of my YouTube channel. Every line of code will be written from scratch and rebuilt live.

What I'm about to say may sound extremely bold. I won't blame you if you laugh. However, I'm increasingly of the opinion that there's a solid case for just starting up a hosting company for Trongate developers.

Since 1996, I have been involved in a cycle that goes like this:

Step 1). Find great upstart hosting company.

Step 2). Get on board and invite other people to do likewise.

Step 3). Enjoy a great service for a few years.

Step 4). See the hosting company get bought out by a bigger company.

Step 5). Watch as everything that was once good turns to shit.

Step 6). Go back to step 1.

The time has come to break the cycle. I've had enough. That's nothing against H4Y Technologies LLC. I don't know them and for all I know they could be fantastic. I really do wish them every success and I congratulate them on their acquisition.

Anyway, if we do go down, don't panic. In that instance, YouTube will be 'home base' and we'll make the best of it.

I will, of course, take regular backups.

DC
