Just a quick update regarding Trongate v2! I recently ran a poll on the YouTube channel, asking whether we should refer to the upcoming version of Trongate as "v2" or "v1.4". The result? An overwhelming majority - over 80% - voted for "v2". So, v2 it is!
I've been pouring my energy into this new version of Trongate over the past few weeks, and I am super excited about where we're heading. Here's a quick overview of the vibe:
WHY WE'RE DOING V2
->. In developing Trongate v1, I made three key decisions that - with hindsight - were erroneous:
1). I misjudged how hesitant some folks might be about downloading a desktop app - especially in today's ultra web-based world.
2). I included too many features too quickly, which caused the framework to lose some of its laser-sharp focus.
3). I struggled to effectively communicate the vision behind "v1 forever" - which simply means a stable core with continual enhancements. Unfortunately, that was often misunderstood as meaning no updates at all.
To elaborate on that last point, even powerful AI bots have wrestled with grasping the concept of a framework that maintains a v1 label while still receiving ongoing improvements.
That said, rather than continuing to justify the misunderstood “v1 forever” concept, I believe now is the perfect time to move forward - together - with clarity, renewed purpose, and a shared excitement for what lies ahead.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM V2
Two things:
1). A smaller, more streamlined framework that runs approximately 35% faster than v1.
2). The Code Generator, Query Builder, and other tools bundled directly with the framework - no need to install a desktop app.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Q: Will the Desktop App continue?
A: Yes. There are benefits to having the desktop app. I enjoy using it, so let's keep it.
Q: Will your (v1 Trongate) website break?
A: The underlying architecture and syntax will remain unchanged, so there's no need to modify your modules. However, since we're removing some elements, there's a chance you may need to do a little bit of tweakery - particularly if you're a heavy user of the API Explorer or Trongate Pages.
Q: Will Trongate v1 continue?
A: Absolutely. It may live on a different GitHub branch, but I see no reason to discontinue it.
Q: Should you be worried about stuff breaking?
A: You do *NOT* need to worry. When launch time comes, we'll have our incredible patent-pending triple-lock system in place:
i). The forums will be watched very closely, ensuring that any support requests are answered swiftly.
ii). If anyone experiences mission-critical errors, I’ll personally offer to help - free of charge.
iii). If any persistent issues arise, we'll release code to handle the transition automatically.
Don't worry - it’s going to be great.
Ahoy!
